CEFN MABLY LAKES match pond

The match pond has 40 pegs all of which have been designed with match fishing in mind. Each peg is served via a gravel path and is easily accessible. There is a large island running through the middle of the pond, which is no further than 22m from the bank making it perfect for pole, waggler or feeder fishing. There are 2 shelves that run throughout the lake. 1 is at 2ft the other at 4ft and the bed of the lake is 6ft. This offers numerous options for the angler. The lake has matured nicely over the past 4 years, the fishing has been pretty consistant with 100lb bags regular. The beauty of this lake is that not all the matches are won on the pole and not all the fish are lumpy mirror carp. Feeder fishing often beats pole anglers, just as pole and paste anglers often beat up in the water anglers. It really is that unpredictable

Top Tips from our PAA coach Bob Mitchell

SUMMER: Use banded pellet in the summer for best results, use a little and often approach to feeding. Fish will feed up in the water so you can also use pellet or castor/maggot shallow. A consistant method of catching is on the method feeder, use BAG EM's Machins method mix and meat for top weights.

Winter: Winter fishing can be slower, but maggot feeder to the island always produces. Fish BAG EM's expanda pellet just of 1st shelf and target the silver's and f1's with pellet

MATCH FISHING CAN OFTEN BE WON ON THE 'DRAW', WELL NOT HERE AS OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS THE MATCH POND HAS BUILT UP A REPUTATION AS BEING ONE OF THE FAIREST VENUES AROUND. THE RESULTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR HAVE SHOWN SOME FASCINATING RESULTS.

THERE IS NO DOMINATION WITH THE POLE WITH METHOD FEEDER FISHING PROBABLY BEING THE MOST CONSISTENT METHOD. THIS YEAR THE FAR BANK HAS EVEN OUTFISHED THE CARPARK SIDE!!

THIS WINTER 11/12' THE MATCH POND WILL UNDERGO A MAJOR RESTOCKING OPERATION. FISH BROUGHT ON ONSITE WILL BE STOCKED AS WILL A FRESH STOCKING OF CARP AND SOME SILVER FISH
